World T20 2021 - A new champion awaits

Yesterday was a heartbreaking day for us Pakistanis but being a sportsman, I was happy to see two finalists who have not won WT20 final, and for the first time in their history they'd contest for the champion position.

'WT20 Champion' for a few months

Because whether Australia or New Zealand won, they'd be champion for few months because the next WT20 is few months time, it reminded me of 2009 edition of the ICC tournament, where Pakistan won but after few months the third edition was being played in Caribbean, and similarly the case between PSL 5 and 6 where Karachi Kings was crowned champion in November 2020 and the next champion Multan Sultans was crowned June-July 2021, needless to say KK was crowned champion PSL 5 for mere months before MS was crowned Champions for PSL 6, which is a shame, because both of the tournaments were hampered due to COVID-19, which was personally a bad taste in mouth, because it is a redundant factor, otherwise this tournament was supposed to be played in India in 2020, and the Australia edition in 2022, but thanks to this pandemic, whole ICC scheduling have been disturbed and not just disturbed, but disturbed really badly.

Pakistan May Had lost the game but won the hearts

Not saying as Pakistani, but the fact is I personally have been wanting this fight back from the green shirts since long, Pakistan may have lost an opportunity of playing third final but I personally feel, we had over-expectations from green shirts instead of being realistic.

The 'Gamble'

The toss reminded me of probability and estimation chapter in my SI (Statistics Inference course), as it

always used to give example of coin toss and similarly whole of the tournament dependent on the toss, as due to sweaty conditions of the region, (because this tournament was jointly played in Oman and UAE), plus the pitches were also one sided, otherwise I remember long ago and far way when Sharjah Cup was a norm, pitches in Sharjah were not as dead as I saw this time, although Sharjah stadium is of the same size as now but still these low scoring game ruined the stature 2007 and 2009 editions created, again I am repeating I am not uttering because my team lost but because game was played on toss, winning the toss and chasing means you win. Period. But thankfully later part of the tournament, standard of pitches improved as by the amount of runs scored yesterday in Semi Final 2 between Pakistan and Australia show improvement in pitches, although Pakistan lost the game but at least Pakistan did put a fight which was needed off them.

This is a particular word I was not getting appropriate word in English thesaurus, but we as Pakistani got so much of the expectations, otherwise including me, none expected them to come this far into the tournament, although enjoying the moment is everyone's right, but insulting should not be deemed as enjoyment, as not every Indian is like that, the way we Pakistanis trolled Indians, it conveyed a global message that all of the Pakistanis are like that, which is a shame, because we as Pakistanis should treat ourselves as reflection of Pakistan, and I don't think trolling be deemed as enjoyment.

Our Social Media Platforms

There were SMP's who were making the nation emotional and being Muslims, not recommended to say big words or like we say in Urdu language بڑے بول which means we under estimate Australia team and will directly play NZ in the semi final, I used to comment on their Twitter Account so that first let us win the Semi Final against Australia because if Australia is in the semi finals, it is a force to be reckoned with, but if you go through the attachment, clearly mentions that people are demanding such ridiculous content, I am not saying we should not be patriotic but such sentimental and emotional tweets convey a bad image globally that we Pakistanis are such a brat, and in return get trolled in international arena. Treat it as a game, we enjoyed India game but taking it as serious as we are playing a level of game of thrones, which is ridiculous. The way Pakistani enjoyed and the smiles which was bought by the performance of our team to our nation is the thing which should have been the main motive to be shown internationally, but sorry to say, on our national media, I was listening ہم نے بدلہ لینا   ہے at least show some sense on the national media and social media platforms.

Pakistan did play fearlessly and we're proud of our boys

And with due respect, the way neighbors have been trolling Hassan Ali and making fake posts regarding HA and his family being threatened is totally rubbish, as we have been proud of our boys who fought till the last ball, which is a positive thing, although Pakistan didn't make it to the finals but their attitude was commendable, something which we missed dearly from green-shirts, but well done boys, when there are two teams competing, one has to win and other have to lose, so this is ridiculous threatening Hassan Ali, which is not the case but just a propaganda, because they want to take global attention away from India to Pakistan, sorry this is political but this is the helm of affairs here where sports is being indulged into regional politics from a neighboring country.

I personally feel

When there are two teams playing, one team wins and other loses, and this time Pakistan was on the losing side, but the fact is Pakistan did show fight, and for which I am proud of my team because this way Pakistan played with dignity.

Don't forget

This is the same team from where NZ just on the brink of starting Pakistan's home series flew back home, and just after few days England also withdrew its 4 days tour to Pakistan, which conveyed a message globally that Pakistan ain't a safe country, but the way our cricket reacted and afterwards they way Pakistan started its WT20 event with a bang, as Pakistan clinch a ten wickets win against arch rivals India, breaking Indian jinx that Pakistan can't win against India in ICC events, which is now story of the past.

"Security threat"

Our next game was against Security Threat aka NZ team who flew away from Pakistan amid false and fake news, on which NZ did show fight but at the end of the day it was Pakistan who had the last laugh.

Afghani Jilebi

I must admit, although I have seen Afghani players playing in PSL and world wide leagues, but I didn't expect them to show this much of the fight against the superior Pakistani team, but at the end of the day, it was Asif Ali who had the last laugh while having 4 sixes against their bowler named Janat.

Wins against Namibia and Scotland

By winning against minnows Pakistan improved its rating and knocked out favorites India and instead from the group 2, it was Pakistan as B1 and NZ as B2 otherwise Group A comprises of A1 as England and A2 as Australia, which means Semi Final 2 was to be played between Pakistan and Australia whereas Semi Final 1 be played between 2019 CWC finalist New Zealand and England.

After the conclusion of Semi Finals

It is going to be a final of Tasman sea neighbors i.e. Australia and New Zealand, for which I personally want NZ to win because they deserve to win more than Australia, as on the lighter note, try to have some trophies to be shelved in NZ as Australia possesses plenty of trophies under their shelves, but realistically speaking may the best team wins because both of these teams took and continued with the momentum during the tournament, so needless to say which team is going to win as both of the teams are deserving, as this is the only ICC trophy either one of the teams possesses but this is a reality that Dubai 2021 is another one to add to a catalogue that Pakistan will try to shove away to the back of the mind. One day, they will hope to close that catalogue, for good. Until then, though, that grip Australia have over Pakistan in World Cups will only grow tighter, straddling the length of the country, right up to the prime minister's doorstep.
