It is 25th December 2021, somewhere it is Christmas being celebrated whereas we are celebrating Quaid-e-Azam (Father of the nation for Pakistan) Anniversary, and it started with Final Match of the Q-e-A trophy 2021-22.
Conditions at National Stadium, Karachi
In murky Karachi conditions, Umer Amin skipper of Northern won the coin toss and elected to field and the decision paid off for the boys in red hats, as a single over costed two wickets including the scalp of Fakhar Zaman, due to which KP were on back foot, and since while I am writing these lines, it is 5:15 pm in evening and like commentators are saying twilight moment in Karachi as it is transition period between natural light of the Sun and implementation of Artificial Lights starting to impact on NSK.
This is to further clarify that it is half an hour time before it is going to be officially sunset in Karachi,
where KP has to deal with swiveling Pink Ball, which is supposed to be moving a lot under artificial lights, furthermore the condition in Karachi is supposed to be supporting both ball and bat since pitch is green-top but under lights, it is expected to have dew, but this is unlike the one we experienced during the recently concluded ICC World T20 2021 in the middle east, but it is cold, in-fact really cold and apart from being sweaty, conditions at NSK is too good as compared to DSC, as weather conditions at NSK is too good for playing cricket apart from our curators who have created a really good wicket for today's game.
The Twilight mode I was talking about
Conditions in night time during the night, I say it is pleasant
But
The Drop Point I placed in the map; at the right hand side, the chocolate bars we are observing beside NSK, is actually National Stadium Colony, which is unexpected, since the location so close to NSK should have been used as Parking Lots, instead of allotting the space for staging a colony whereas the sole purpose of facilitating visiting spectators, we are supporting and facilitating those who have greens in their pockets, this is a shame, because just to facilitate your political motives, you have ruined the atmosphere for creating positive environment for spectators, do you want to know where their (the spectators) vehicles are parked? Just look into North-East of this screenshot, where you're seeing a H place-mark, this is where their (spectators) vehicles are parked, otherwise internationally we see cars and vehicles are parked nearby stadiums, hence this is not the responsibility of only government but also the natives of the city to question why this parking lot space was equated for creating a colony? شرم آنی چاہئے ہمیں اتنی منافقت پر۔
This is not going to be a usual copy-pasted material for how year 2021 gone for Pakistan Cricket, instead would try to place my own point of views which I felt was the case.
Overall year for Pakistan Cricket!
If i got to the point without any delay, it might look "good" for Pakistan Cricket, but the fact is and important fact which short-shortsightedness, we might be ignoring that majority of games we played during the year were T20Is, no offense to this format, but Pakistan yet to be tested thoroughly in testing formats like Test Matches and ODI's, because like elders have rightly said, that sometimes statistics doesn't replicate how and under which circumstances those statistics were generated.
If my point of view is concerned
I found this year was not good for Pakistan, because if we go through the statistics as per winning-losing-no_result formula as criteria, things might be looking really good, or as per our news media, but being a Pakistani, I am not finding it good for Pakistan Cricket, because match practice Pakistan is getting is only limited to T20I and shortest format competition, instead when it comes to more tougher competition like ODI's and Test Matches, Pakistan lacked match practice.
When it comes to format-only-statistics
Test Matches
When it comes to test match cricket, statistics only proving information which at front looks awesome being a Pakistani, but on the larger scale, during the span of 365 days in a calendar year, Pakistan only managed to play 9 games only, which means roughly 45 days out of 365 days, which gives a miserable 12.33 score meaning, 12.33 percent Pakistan managed to play, and out of that 12.33 percentage, Pakistan won 77.78 percentage of those games, no offense to the opponents as being Pakistanis, we want good, competitive cricket with our opponents, but sadly this was the tale of the year for Pakistan that which ever team visited Pakistan, sent a depleted Pakistani team, although the same were highly competitive when Pakistan had an away tour in their own backyards, but when they toured Pakistan, it was like Pakistan was playing against minnows, which didn't provide good taste in mouth being a Pakistani Cricket Fan, which is a double standard (I might not be looking like a blind cricket fan), but whenever a depleted team tours Pakistan, I remember this clip of Ian Chappell of not allowing Pakistan to tour Australia.
ODI's
Sadly, as per this statistics I reconfirmed and verified several times, because initially when I fetched the said data, I couldn't believe Pakistan only managed to play 6 ODIs during a span of 365 days which makes the tally 1.64% of the games during the year and that too only in foreign land, and none of the ODI games were staged on Pakistani soil, which is a shame, as this is a slap on Pakistani authority, media managers and PR agencies who couldn't manage to stage more home ODI games, where Pakistan only managed to win 2 out of 6 games (33.33%), which means Pakistan lost 4 out of 6 games (66.67%) which clearly put weights on to my point that Pakistan lacks match practice for competing in lengthy formats vice-versa T20I format.
T20Is
The T20 statistics for Pakistan looks populated but still six of these games were played in World T20 played in the Middle East, but because of excessive T20 games, Pakistan lost tough in Test Matches and ODI's, as Pakistan forgot to play long formats just because of heavy dosage of T20Is, but still the matches Pakistan lost during the year were against Aussies, England, Proteas and Zimbabwe, and total matches lost during the said period were 6, where the lost against Aussies were the latest when Pakistan lost the WT20 semi final against them in Dubai, whereas against England, the mentioned two losses were in England after Pakistan won the first game against the host, lost remaining two games, whereas Proteas games lost were divided between one loss in Pakistan and another in South Africa, and lastly the single loss against Zimbabwe was in Harare when Pakistan toured Zimbabwe, and out of 3 games a single game was won by the hosts, but as of again, Chappell comes again, and this time I totally agree with him because too many cooks spoil the meal, and here too many T20I's spoiling (should I rephrase spoiled) the essence of cricket itself, which is not good for the game.
This is like an onus for Pakistan that it performed in absence of veterans in Muhammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik, where Pakistan took chance in depending on their bench strength like Haider Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Muhammad Wasim Jr. etc. and in the first T20I, especially what I saw, it was Haider Ali (HA) and Muhammad Wasim (MW) were pick-of-the-bowler.
T20I in Karachi
I might look biased being a Karachiite, supporting cricket in Karachi, but the ambiance Karachiites showed was awesome, because whole of the Pakistan have been deprived of International Cricket, especially after declination of tour by NZ and later-on by England, it was thought that Pakistan might lose hosting rights in playing in home conditions, which again solidifies my point that all we require is raising soft image of Pakistan instead of showing as if what Pakistan is doing is no doubt extraordinary, but there are more aspects of Pakistan which should be marketed instead of just emphasizing on security, no doubt security matters but by showing such images of cricketers being patrolled heavily indirectly responsible for creating the POINT-OF-VIEW. Instead I say cricket should be promoted and the way Pakistani people welcome cricket in either of the city, this should have been promoted and marketed.
Backing on the bench-strength
As Mr. dependable for Pakistan in recent times i.e. Babar Azam got out cheaply but the recovery mode
which Rizwan and Haider Ali took on their shoulders was something sans from the green shirts. However, he had to hold his end of the bargain against spin, especially
off Hosein, who finished his four overs with 1 for 19 by the 11th over.
At that stage, Haider was on 12 off 14, looking for the big hits without
being able to hit them clean. Then, like a flick of a switch, it all
turned around. Off the 12th over, he climbed into Odean Smith's
medium pace, hitting him for three fours and six to get his innings
going. It proved to be the trigger for a run-surge from there. Under his
bus were debutant Dominic Drakes,
who also struggled for consistency, as Haider raised his half-century
with an 83-metre six. It had come off just 28 balls, with Pakistan at
140 for 2 at the 15-over mark. Off the first ball of the 16th, Rizwan
was out as Odean's running catch around the ropes at deep midwicket sent
him back for 78. A 105-run third-wicket stand had been broken.
Finishing touches by Muhammad Nawaz
Rizwan's exit gave six-hitter Asif Ali the platform to launch into an
inexperienced attack, but he managed just 1. With Iftikhar Ahmed too
failing, Pakistan needed someone to side with Haider. As it turned out, Mohammad Nawaz
did more. His three fours and two sixes blindsided the visitors, who
until then were hoping to restrict Pakistan to 180. That was to change,
however, as the 19th over by Romario Shepherd went for 21, thereby
allowing for a massive finish.
With the target already looking beyond reach and the asking rate spiralling by the minute, Nawaz and Shadab Khan
spun a web around the batters, using the crease and variations in
length superbly to tie the batters down. Hope was out lbw sweeping,
Shamarh Brooks bowled trying to heave into the leg side and Rovman
Powell caught brilliantly by a diving Nawaz at long-on. At 88 for 7,
West Indies were in danger of being bowled out well inside 20 overs.
However, Odean (24 off 16) and Shepherd (21 off 16) got together to
swing their bats for some powerful blows. although they merely served to
reduce the margin of defeat.
Wasim's rip-roaring spell
First ball: a glorious cover drive on the up. Third ball: a short-arm
jab for six. Enough to demoralise a rookie 20-year old wanting to
impress the team management? Not Mohammad Wasim.
He responded with pin-point yorker to flatten Nicholas Pooran's
off-stump as he was late on the shot. Perhaps he underestimated Wasim's
pace. Then, off the second legitimate delivery off his next over, the
sixth of the innings, he struck comeback man Devon Thomas flush on his
boot. Gone, he didn't even bother reviewing. West Indies were 46 for 3
inside the Powerplay.
West Indies will come into this T20I series hurting from how their title
defence went at the T20 World Cup a month ago. They'll have more than
just hurt to deal with, given the positive Covid-19 tests for Sheldon Cottrell, Roston Chase and Kyle Mayers, which have ruled the trio out of all three T20Is.
Main thing - Cricket coming to Pakistan
In all this, the larger picture is that there is international cricket
happening in Pakistan for the first time since New Zealand pulled out,
and then England followed suit, just about two months back. West Indies
have already arrived, and the first T20I looks set to go ahead despite
the positive Covid-19 tests. If any team had half a mind to pull out,
surely a slew of positive tests provides a readymade reason, but that
West Indies are still in Karachi and preparing to play, means cricket will happen, barring the exceptionally unforeseen.
Players to look out
Akeal Hosein has only grown since then. He's the complete package
for T20s, able to bowl restrictively through different innings phases,
handy with the bat lower down the order, and an athletic live-wire in the
field. Hosein is likely to be a sure starter in the XI, and with
greater responsibility in a depleted squad. If he can step up to it,
West Indies could have themselves another great T20 prospect.
This is what I hate the most
No question on credibility of our Honorable and respected security personnel doing their job for the mother country, but they exclusive pictures we are seeing when it comes to searches related to Pakistan, and we are seeing these sort of pictures, again I am not degrading my country's security men, but those who're responsible of promoting such pictures and videos, otherwise foreign cricket boards' so incorporate such exercises but they never PROMOTE such exercises, my disagreement is on promotion, otherwise there are loads of countries in the world who have worst security situations but are staging their cricket on their home soil just because their cricket board media cell doesn't promote such things, otherwise country's having more brittle situation are staging home series' at home and here we are have to confirm we have a firm security situation at home.
West Indies news amid COVID-19 positive cases
West Indies have got plenty of exciting new talent to call on, despite
missing Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Shimron Hetmyer and
Fabian Allen. There's the trio of Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith and
Dominic Drakes - all fast-bowling allrounders. Each can hit the speed
gun as well as the white ball to considerable distances, and all three
could be in action in the first T20I.
When it comes to Pakistan news
Pakistan rotated their players in the Bangladesh T20Is, rightly figuring
that some needed a bit of a rest after the T20 World Cup and with a
Test series against Bangladesh to follow. They're back at full strength
now, apart from leaving out Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim and Hasan Ali.
Pitch and conditions
The
pitch at the National Stadium is expected to be full of runs, with the
weather forecast to be pleasant and clear. The match is starting at
6.00pm local time, which reduces any effect dew might have.
About T20Is in Karachi
Pakistan have won all four
T20Is they've played at this venue, although the first game was back in
2008 and the other three came in 2018 - and were against West Indies.
West Indies squad have reached Karachi, which is a good thing for both Pakistan and for Cricket, as two mercurial teams are going to compete against each other in two of the formats well suited to both of them, whereas Pakistan hosting a complete T20 and ODI series on Karachi soil.
But
As I have been advocate of staging more games on to other centers like Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar (when ready and available), Multan etc.;
Why I am saying this
I have been saying this because of my psychological aspects;
Think Internationally
We are bad at marketing and are worst of marketers, because read my words whilst having open and broad mindset, as whenever International Cricket is arranged in a particular country, they DO MAKE such arrangements just like Pakistan currently doing, but I am acting like thinking differently, because today's era is of broadcast, and the broadcaster buys country's cricket series' with respect to its demand and demand depends on perception, and perception is created upon what YOU'RE showing to them; and now think about when we're showing them that foreign players when landing into Pakistan, are being escorted bordering security personnel, although this is a norm even in countries like Australia and England but they don't show their security personnel, although their (security personnel contribution) should be appreciated, but not in that manner, the way PCB Social Media have been bragging,
We Require to Show Pakistan a Safe country but not like that
Because just like I mentioned above, this is all about psychological and perception creation and modification, because again, every country makes sufficient arrangements, when an International Team visits them, but if their national board starts showing foreign players being escorted in tight security, again I must confess, not saying our security personnel are doing average job, but whatever we show them (international viewers) creates a perception, and perception is responsible for creating a FALSE REALITY, and my query is with all of them (the foreigners who have visited Pakistan), whatever perception foreigners have about Pakistan, reality in Pakistan is totally different.
Not Talking about Politics and Geo-Political issues hampering Pakistan's perception
The recent events conducted at Sialkot does hampered reputation of Pakistan and its economy, hence this is the high time, Pakistan should emphasize perception creation first, even if they want some reels for Instagram Stories, they should show enthusiasm of our crowd who love cricket and cricketer and chanting banners for appreciation of foreign players instead of showing, airing and broadcasting videos of foreign players being escorted in tight security, again a subtle disclaimer, that not saying reduce security, but don't create a false perception of Pakistan in the minds of those foreigners who have not visited Pakistan and instead installing a pre-installed fear installed into their sub-conscious mind.
We should look into Bangladesh's approach
The way they (the Bangladeshi Cricket Board) promoted this image, because it literally gave subtle invitation to those people to visit Bangladesh, who have not, because this is the way modern promotion of (cricketing) economies are done.
settled outside of court, mediated by the Prime Minister Imran Khan's
office. Both parties are now expected to withdraw litigation. The
revenue sharing model, ESPNcricinfo understands, has also been revised,
allowing PCB to take 72% of the share while PTV will take 28% out of the
commercial deals, a significant change from the previous 57.5 - 42.5
arrangement.
The
PCB had signed a three-year broadcast deal last year in September with
PTV to broadcast home cricket, as well as an agreement with I-Media
Communications Services, to ensure the PCB's broadcast content is not
redistributed illegally by cable operators. The model could have
potentially had them earn in excess of USD $200 million, but last month
new PCB chairman Ramiz Raja had unilaterally suspended the deal
with PTV and terminated the I-Media contract to open a new tender for
the media rights for Pakistan's upcoming series against West Indies and
Australia.
PTV had gone
to Lahore Civil Court to obtain a stay order against PCB's abrupt move,
and the two parties were struck in a legal wrangle - PCB going to the
High Court - with the West Indies series around the corner. The courts
adjourned the hearings while the PCB was keen to go into fresh bidding
and bring in a new broadcaster; PTV, the state broadcaster, was unhappy
with this and had a number of meetings to renegotiate with PCB, citing
that they had never violated their agreements or defaulted on their
payments.
The expected
earnings from this deal would come from advertising revenue and also,
for the first time in Pakistan, distribution revenue from the cable
operators - the equivalent of revenues that broadcasters make from
subscriptions - through I-Media was meant to ensure that the
distribution of cricket content would only be done through licensed
cable operators, and the value of the content would be protected against
potential illegal distribution. The production rights however had to be
regulated by PCB on their own.
The
deal with I-Media now stands terminated due to non-compliance on
payments. The Pakistan government is yet to implement the Digital
Pakistan policy, one part of which regulates the illegal cable operator
business, though the plan is to have it done within a year.
The
broadcast deal until last year was signed in the shadow of the Covid-19
pandemic in a shrinking broadcast market. It ended a long-running
broadcast relationship between the PCB and Ten Sports, and there were no
potential overseas takers at the time as international rights for PCB's
home series were sold separately to various channels around the world.
Recently
though, Pakistan has had a few local sports broadcasters to choose
from. The ARY Group has launched an HD sports channel, A-Sports, which
covered the T20 World Cup and is presently broadcasting the Lankan
Premier League. PTV broadcasts its content in standard definition, but
as per ESPNcricinfo, the state broadcaster is set to upgrade
their broadcasting quality to HD within a month.

Ground breaking ceremony
Bahria Town Karachi held the ground breaking ceremony of Pakistan's
biggest cricket stadium in Sports City Karachi on Friday, 14 April 2017.
The ceremony was attended by the top management of Bahria Town and
legendary cricketers like Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Shoaib Mohammad, Shahid Afridi, Umar Akmal and Fawad Alam. Residents of Bahria Town Karachi as well as people from across the city attended this glorious ceremony.
Chief Guest of the event was the Chairman of Bahria Town; Malik
Riaz Hussain, who performed the groundbreaking ceremony by pressing the
button to start the crane on the project site. He said on the event that
Rafi Cricket Stadium will be built in about one and a half years and by next two years, there will be international cricket matches in
this ground. Given the level of security in Bahria Town, and ongoing
construction of Hyatt Regency Hotel near Theme Park in Precinct 5, Rafi
Cricket Stadium will be an optimal place for hosting international
cricket events.

I do not want myself to be seen anything like Athar Ali Khan, but today's performance of Pakistan team needs appreciation, because today's performance both with bat and ball made sure that Pakistan has slight chance of winning the second test while still a 55% chances of Bangladesh saving the match, which is also mentioned on Cricinfo but now time is the constraint as four sessions remain before Pakistan would be packing their bags for Pakistan, to play against Windies at Karachi.
Mystery Bowler in Sajid Khan
Newbie in Sajid Khan made sure that Bangladesh would be fighting to avoid following on
Pakistan got busy as soon as play commenced at 10:50am. They first
declaring on 300 for four, with half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and
Fawad Alam. Then, despite being hamstrung by the umpires' diktat that
play wouldn't continue if they operate with fast bowlers, Pakistan made
inroads with spin.
On Tuesday, play was called off at 4.30pm, an hour before scheduled
close. Conditions continued to remain murky all day. Yet, it was better
than on the three previous days where heavy rain allowed just 63.2 overs
to be bowled in the Test.
Sajid Khan's maiden six-wicket haul left Bangladesh in danger of being made to
follow-on with one day of the Dhaka Test to go. It remains to be seen if
the weather will halt Pakistan's push for full WTC points, though.
Debutant Mahmudul Hasan Joy tried to charge
off spinner Sajid, only managing to edge to slip. Then, Hasan Ali made
his presence felt at point, first with a simple catch to dismiss Shadman
Islam before running out Mominul Haque with a direct hit.
Mushfiqur
Rahim was the next to go, one ball after surviving a close lbw call, as
he tried to swing Sajid across the line with Fawad taking the catch at
short midwicket. Then, Liton Das, sent ahead of Shakib Al Hasan, tried
to attack Sajid but only hit one back to the bowler as Bangladesh
slipped to 46 for 5.
Sajid
then completed his five-for when he trapped Najmul Hossain Shanto for
30. Shanto couldn't capitalise on his reprieves, first being dropped on
13 and later when he was caught behind off a Nauman Ali no-ball.
Shakib
tried to bristle his way for runs, but Bangladesh kept losing wickets.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz became Sajid's sixth victim. Shakib and Taijul Islam
then survived 5.2 overs before play was called off.
Pakistan
had earlier declared their first innings on 300 immediately after Fawad
reached his second Test half-century. Rizwan made an unbeaten 53 off 94
balls, with the pair's unbroken fifth-wicket stand worth 103.
Rizwan
endured slices of luck; he was dropped on 30 apart from surviving two
lbw calls from the on-field umpires, both reversed through DRS.
Bangladesh
had started well with pacers Ebadot Hossain and Khaled Ahmed bowling
well in tandem, with the wickets of Azhar Ali and Babar Azam
respectively. It was Khaled's first Test wicket, having bowled 69.4
overs over three Tests since his debut in November 2018.
When it comes to the Ashes
Tomorrow at 5 am Pakistan time (+5 GMT) and likewise 12 am Greenwich Meridian Time, England would be locking horns against their rivals Australia in Australia, hence this is gonna be something to worth watching, if there were India-Pakistan games, only than I won't had taken that much of the interest, but whatever the circumstances, the longest cricket format is likely to be watchable either in Australia and/or England, just because of different factors,
the Crowd
Ambiance at ground
Production and broadcast quality and standard
On-Ground Theming
On-Ground theming
This is something many of my fellow Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan friends would be thinking that یہ لڑکا کیا اول فول بک رہا ہے but Australian, British and Proteas ground advertisement does complement their theming, unlike Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Lankan grounds, where use of theming colours on on-ground advertisement does look obnoxious because just imagine you're watching a game in either of the South Asian countries, instead of watching a complementary colour schema as yellow, orange, black etc are always seen, including India who're now incorporated with electronic on-ground advertisement, but still they way colour combinations are used during British, Australian, New Zealand and Proteas games, which is pleasing to the eyes.
One of the most anticipated series was the one between Australia and India in Australia where heavy usage of electronic advertisement was implemented. Along with the sporting excellence on display during the last two games between these two sides, technological brilliance is also witnessed by the sponsors.
In the first two one day international games, virtual advertisements have been used in Australia. The main sponsors of the series were not painted or laid down on the ground. The technology was used by the broadcast team to virtual embed these logos. In the past, sponsors used to get visibility when their big logos were painted in patches across the ground. However, technological advancement has made sure that there is no need to paint or lay down the carpets on the ground.
Dream11, Hero, Sensodyne, Ebco, IIFL, Amazon, Volkswagen were some of the brands that had virtual logos embedded during the one-day games between Australia and India. They were found on either sides of the playing pitch.
Virtual 3D logos are not being implemented for the first time in cricket grounds. In the past, virtual 3D logos have also been seen during India’s games in New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Considering the exposure on the television is not affected during the use of virtual 3D logos, brands are unlikely to be against using this technology. In the stadium, LED boards on the boundaries have also given another avenue to sponsors to explore without making any physical changes to the field.
However, the physical presence of logos is essential for the crowds in the stadiums. As of now, most of the games are played behind closed doors, so it does not make a big difference. Fans have been let in during the ODI series between India and Australia. It will be interesting to see whether they continue to use this approach when fans are completely back in the stadium.
Today when I am writing this blog article, India won Mumbai test against their WTC 21 finalists i.e. New Zealand, cementing their record on home soil.
Current W/L percentages after conclusion of Mumbai Test
Whereas Bangladesh v Pakistan 2nd test match is supposed to be ending in draw, because stumps on Day 3 and still Pakistan has not completed furthermore first innings yet to be completed when day four will be initiated tomorrow.
What is next for Pakistan
A Power-packed West Indian team is supposed to be touring Pakistan for participating in ODI and T20, and this time round, I am favoring West Indies, as this time round, they are more power packed as compared to their (the West Indies team) tour to Karachi previously (April 2018) before this pandemic began and it must be remembered that time NSK was without shades, so this is supposed to be the first full fledged ODI and T20 series after pandemic.
COVID threats
This ain't a problem, but still the problem is our 'pathetic news media', getting rise to the speculations and creating them as fact, otherwise things aren't as bad in Pakistan, as propagated internationally. I know cases have been on the increase, but the fact is, the way we figured out the way to tackle previous variants, we are hopeful, same is gonna be the case, just because it is being planned not to restrict businesses.
Just Because of heavy investments for propaganda machines
Because of one of our neighbor believes in creating anarchy in neighboring countries and even utilizing money to create unrest in these regional countries.
and therefore this series is going to be played under these scenarios
And this is going to be a test for PCB and Pakistani authorities to make sure such bad taste in mouth incidents shouldn't be happening on eve and during the series, because now wars are being fought on screens instead of on battlefields, because modern battlefields are TV/Phone/Laptop/Streaming Devices'.
