ICC World T20 2012, a big turn-off

The way WT20 2012 was marketed,
it didn't meet up to that expectation
Was out of the scene thanks to study and internship purposes but has been following cricket on regular since cricket is in my blood, but sorry to say this current edition of World T20 was a big turn off for me, except for the broadcast, nothing much was as good. Grounds weren't good and could had been better. Plus filled grounds area pleasure to watch. Even crowd visited Windies Cricket Grounds when T20 event staged in Caribbean, unlike in Lanka where I could see the Yellow on Blue seats of RPS, Pallekele and Hambantota, though scenery around was spectacular but deserted grounds were a worry and thanks to some nail biting Pakistani games and an India Pakistan clash, Lanka's grounds were at capacity, else like we say in Urdu "Naak Kat Jana", would had happened.

The way ICC WT20 2012 was conducted, first of all, on what grounds this World T20 event was given to Sri Lanka? No doubt they are our friends but it should also be noted that several matches in this tournament were having doubts, and created some issues on clarity of this tournament.

So many super overs, and one sided clashes without continuity into their performances, if you ask me this tournament can be summarized under the mentioned tagline. Again saying this not because of Pakistan not qualified but on a reality note, the way games were placed i.e. giving so many games to RPS compared to Hambantota and Pallekele, was injustice to those venues and secondly over dose of games particularly on RPS tracks, while having an average continuous 4 innings on a day on the same track is just killing the already deteriorated slow tracks into cricket killing tracks, keeping in mind majority of SLPL games were also staged at RPS, secondly the quality of pitches in Sri Lanka were not sporting (both, the curators and the tracks itself), plus since it was an ICC tournament, than how come ICC curators couldn't prepare a sporty pitch? By sporty pitch I mean which supports both batters and bowlers, therefore it should be an equal fight between bat and ball. (I guess this game was supposed to be played by bat and ball only)

Umpires flaws are other things which raised my attention since:
  • None of the umpiring flaws went against the Lankans.
  • Even Umpire of the Year Kumar Dharmasena made so many flawed decisions which changed the complexion of the game and gave advantage to other team.

Therefore, this event unlike the 2010, 2009 and 2007 editions, wasn't as fruitful for ICC since there was no charm whatsoever in this tournament while wrongly seeding the teams, and scripting the super 8 groups in such manner that tough teams lie in one group and less in another, else in my opinion there should had been a combination of teams (both tough and not so tough) within both groups, voiding the essence of surprise package in the Super 8 stage. We watch T20 cricket because we expect that there must be something surprise within any match. I am not a Predictor or Forecaster but whatever I assumed after seeing the groups, the same happened, and when those teams actually qualified for Semi Finals, I was not shocked at all, nor at the time when Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka by margin of 16 runs, I wasn't shocked at that time, even my friends and colleagues whom I text alot, actually know and they cursed me when I was saying Pakistan will lose the game since their body language was totally defensive unlike the last game when they played against the mighty Aussies.

This change of form for Pakistani team also raises atleast my eye brows and that is one of the reason why I lose interest in watching these scripted games altogether, whether anyone like it or not but I feel this is the fact and after something, things will unfold, therefore waiting for that time.

Lets see how the Bangladesh edition of the same goes. I am not expecting goods, and if Bangladesh wins that tournament, you shouldn't be shock either. But for this time, Sri Lanka is the winner and congrats to Lankans in advance.
Adios & Peace out!

Future for IPL????

IPL should be stopped for time being
and they should analyze why such things
are happening on regular intervals.
Is IPL really needed to be continue? Only in one season, so much police involvement into this League means, there's something wrong with their management. In this regards it should be barred, since it exposed how pathetic they are in managing a league at this level.

So much happened in these last two, three weeks outside the cricket ground, first the sting operation, than SRK brawl at Wankhade Stadium, and now inclusion of drugs in the post match party, where several of IPL players including foreigners were at hold. Maybe its happening since Veena Malik is also in India, so they (Indians) were infected by her "persona".

In my personal opinion, they should barred the next season and investigate why such things are happening. That's the only point, instead of such things happening in your own backyard and in those regards, trying to dictate your terms around the region.

SRK brawl at Wankhade Stadium is a black on
rapport of IPL itself.
Because I personally feel that IPL is over-dose of cricket, after watching this crap, have to watch SLPL and than World T20 Event 2012 in Lanka would be over-dose of this format of the game? Than Pakistan is also expecting to hold its Premier League, so it is gonna be a headache. Its just too much. Please pay mercy on your viewers and investors, admit that your investors are not getting their shares that's why they are involved in fixing games.

Peace out!

Stop Pakistan Phobia in the neighbourhood

Pakistan's league ain't for shadowing IPL, mind you!!!
Atlast, a sting operation on Indian domestic players. I was watching a video, where the same TV channel which had sting operation on Indian domestic players, currently being played in the fifth edition of IPL, admitting that they were taking amounts for spot-fixing, means those players which were categorized for 35lacs, were taking amounts for 1Crores.

When such things are gonna happen with a PREMIER LEAGUE, thank god we as Pakistanis weren't comparing our Faysal Bank T20 tournament with them. Our former players were saying that this IPL is a fuss. No quality cricket whatsoever (sorry if it hurts my Indian colleagues, but like the way that video uploader said, talk on logics).

First of ALL

1. Tournaments are sponsored

One must have a clear knowledge about the format of MODERN DAY CRICKET that today, cricket is being sponsored by MNC's, whether it comes to sponsoring domestic tournaments, why should I go so far, in Pakistan our domestic tournaments are being sponsored by Faysal Bank which itself has its roots from Abu Dhabi group, than Emirates Airline, than Zong which is a China Mobile concern, than there's Nokia which is sponsoring Karachi Dolphins. So bragging that how the economy of Pakistan could bear the expense, its the responsibility of organizers and sponsors. Economy can only facilitate, and mind you, there is a Multi-National Cellular Company in India which has its regional hub in Islamabad Pakistan, than we have Mobilink Pakistan which is an Orascom Telecommunication concern, which doesn't require any introduction.

2. Failure State????

Who have given Indians right to call Pakistan as a failure state? Have they forgot their times when their Hindi Language was at shudders, they used to label Pakistani products as Indians, have they forgot that? Plus due to slump in Global Economy crunch, things are worsened I admit but atleast still in Pakistan we do not see such scenes that people sleeping outside when they were killed citing car drove over them, if we're a failure state, we do not possess such things that people sleeping outside in such manner like we see in Bangalore, Mumbai etc.

3. Retired Players...

Another thing which they are bragging is that retired/rejected players from the IPL are being inducted into PPL, first of all PPL is not confirmed name since PCB chief already confirmed this, second we are emphasizing more on redemption of International Cricket in Pakistan. Yes, security not good, but that too at the border touching to Afghanistan, where there is US army so its their failure, not ours. The motive of Pakistani tournament is to resume cricket in Pakistan, not to generate a money machine, Indians are real good in it.

4. Media Coordination

All of this fuss about redemption of cricket in Pakistan was interpreted as copying Indians in Indian Premier League. Ahem Ahem! Wait, Pakistanis copying Indians? کیا گنگا الٹی بہہ رہی ہے؟؟؟؟ seriously that's a joke of the millennium, no doubt Indians are creative and innovative but mind you, Pakistanis also not far behind. Its just that we are behind them in Media War.

Nutshell

We were the ones who bought Sri Lanka into world cricket and helped them developing the infrastructure them, though being a Pakistani I'm ashamed that we were not able to host them properly in their last tour to my country, but we were the ones, who bought variation into modern day cricket by introducing sweep, reverse swing etc. Indians are much better in capitalizing on the already aided advantage. Though being a sensible Pakistani, I must say, Pakistan's league shouldn't be inaugurated this year, but on the contrary this tournament is not to shadow IPL. Indians should be happy for it. We as Pakistani cricket fans want cricket to be played in Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, National Stadium Karachi, Niaz Stadium Hyderabad Sindh, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium Pindi. Try to differentiate, Indians...

Whether you agree or not, much to learn than celebrating

More cons than pros, when we talk about the outcome of this series
Atlast the end of Pakistan-England series about to, when Pakistan would be facing the English at Abu Dhabi tomorrow for the final and the decider T20 match, where according to the points table, both teams are equally poised but in my personal opinion, Pakistan's batting woes were exposed in this series. On the longer version, they were able to hide their weakness but in One Day and T20 series, it were exposed and not only exposed but exposed miserably. In such circumstances, even IF Pakistan able to clinch the series, still I won't be rating it as a big achievement due to genetic flaw in our batting and than fielding. Earlier it were said that out fielding and than batting were headache, I slightly differ the equation in putting batting first and than fielding, because although Pakistan DID had an exceptional 2011 but they won it on bowling basis, secondly Pakistan is going through the same phase, like India used to be during mid 1990's k take the Wicket of Tendulkar, and you got the match in hands.

But sorry to say, being a Pakistani cricket fan to the core of my heart, sorry to say but Pakistan is going through the same phase as I mentioned earlier because just see for yourself, we have already exposed our weaknesses to the cricketing world that take the wicket of Younus, Misbah and they can take the game away from us. Afridi, sorry to all of his fans, but is a gambler, we can't expect serious innings from him. Once in a while he plays a match winning innings but than slump period, and his slump period is for much longer comparison to his peak period with bat. I am just saying that at this age of 30, he should learn to stay on the wicket.

WHAT ELSE?

  • Bowling All-Rounders WOES

Like Sri Lanka, Australia, South Africa and England have developed their bowling all-rounders, who can bat as well and contribute some late order runs to the innings, like yesterday England late order did, 19th over 138-7 and 20th over 150-7. In our team, only Umer Gul can bat to some extend, and Saeed Ajmal to name some, else WE'VE not emphasized on grooming late order batsman cum bowlers who can contribute runs like the other night Thisara Parera did for Sri Lanka against the Aussies in the CB series...
  • Monotonic Bowling attack

We should had gone for multiple options for the post-test match series', since our spinners were literally read by the opposition, therefore we should had put our belief on our bench strength since we have got alot of talent back home, but instead we gone for the same spin attack, even though if consistency was the matter than they should had put some variety into their bowling...
  • Batting strength versus scattered 52 solitaire cards

Batting has already been a woe for Pakistan since the retirement of Saeed Anwar, Aamir Sohail, Inzamam and lately Mohammad Yousuf, we're spending so much on NCR in Lahore and under-construction in several other cities of Pakistan including Karachi, so WHY ARE WE NOT ABLE TO FIND A FINE BATSMAN and batting and bowling all-rounders? Why everyone wants to be on the limelight but do not want to contribute to the Domestic and Grass Root? We are finding coaches for the National Team but what about the Domestic Teams? We can have foreign coaches for grooming of those players so that the job of coaching at National Level could be eased... Else there won't be a difference between Pakistani batting and scattered 52 solitaire game cards...
  • No media manager

Pakistani team didn't had a media manager for the series, because of that, Pakistani team was always under pressure from their Media fight, because our media management didn't give the transcript to the players what to say and what not to... That's why the case of Ajmal's tongue slip incident took place when he without the permission gave a 1 2 minute conversational interview to BBC correspondent. Had there be a MM, I feel such happening could had been avoided with face-saving...
Whatever gonna be the the outcome of this series, whether 4-0, 0-4 and 2-1 or 4-0, 0-4 and 1-2, makes no difference atleast to me, whether the world praises Pakistani team or not but I feel our weaknesses have been exposed to the world, miserably, and there's no need to be happy if tomorrow's game ends in favour of Pakistan...
