Postponement of Sri Lankan A team tour of Pakistan

As a proud Pakistani, the indefinite postponement of Sri Lanka A's tour of Pakistan due to mass protests in Islamabad is a critical blow to our international image. This incident, stemming from political unrest led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters and their leader, former captain and prime minister Imran Khan, casts a shadow over our nation's ability to host international events smoothly and securely. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) attributed the postponement to "political activity" in Islamabad, our nation's capital, and Rawalpindi's twin city. "The Pakistan Cricket Board, in consultation with Sri Lanka Cricket, has postponed the last two 50-over matches of the Pakistan Shaheens-Sri Lanka A series due to political activity in the federal capital," stated the PCB. The two matches, initially set for Wednesday and Friday at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, are now in limbo as both boards scramble to finalize new dates. This disruption follows the PCB's earlier move to relocate the first one-dayer to Islamabad Club, away from Rawalpindi Cricket Ground, due to escalating concerns over the PTI protests. Despite these preventive measures, the subsequent games on November 27 and 29 were also jeopardized by the continued unrest. The protests, which have effectively paralyzed the capital, underscore a tense standoff between Imran Khan's supporters and the federal government, diverting crucial attention from sporting events. This situation is not merely an inconvenience; it is a stark reminder of the volatile political climate that can disrupt even the most meticulously planned international fixtures. The presence of PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the country's Interior Minister, in managing this crisis highlights the intersection of sports and politics that Pakistan must navigate. The postponement tarnishes Pakistan’s efforts to rebuild its image as a safe and welcoming destination for international sports. Our successful lead in the one-day series, with a decisive 108-run victory in the first match and a 1-0 win in the preceding two-match first-class series, is overshadowed by this turmoil. To regain our standing, we must demonstrate stability and ensure that political conflicts do not undermine our commitments to the international sporting community. Only by addressing these challenges head-on can we reaffirm Pakistan's resilience and dedication to hosting world-class events.

PCB Firmly Rejects Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy

Could we see such scenes at Gaddafi?
India's attempts to undermine Pakistan's hosting of the Champions Trophy are escalating, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) using backdoor diplomacy and Indian media to cast doubts about the security situation in Pakistan.

Despite there being no official communication from the BCCI to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the Indian media has been perpetuating a narrative that the Indian team is hesitant to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. However, the PCB has reiterated its commitment to hosting the tournament in Pakistan, refusing to accept a hybrid model.

The PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, emphasized that the BCCI has not raised any formal objections regarding India's participation in the tournament. Naqvi also pointed out that Pakistan has made significant concessions to India in the past, including travelling to India for the ODI World Cup in 2023 despite India's refusal to reciprocate for the Asia Cup.

It appears that India's reluctance to send its team to Pakistan is driven by its own internal politics rather than any valid security concerns. The PCB has assured that all necessary facilities and security arrangements will be made to ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament.

Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan interior minister, emphasized that politics should not be allowed to interfere with sporting events. He stated that Pakistan will not make any exceptions for India in the future if they fail to reciprocate the hospitality and goodwill shown by Pakistan.

Critical Analysis:

This episode highlights the complex dynamics of India-Pakistan relations, with cricket often used as a pawn in their geopolitics. India's attempt to deflect attention from its own reluctance to travel to Pakistan by using the media and raising unsubstantiated security concerns is a classic case of diplomatic gamesmanship.

By using the Indian media to create a narrative that Pakistan is not a suitable host, the BCCI is attempting to deflect pressure from its own government and public to avoid travelling to Pakistan. However, the PCB's stance remains unambiguous: if India does not send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, Pakistan will reassess its participation in future tournaments in India.

Using sports as a diplomatic tool is nothing new, but it is particularly egregious in this case. India's actions are a clear attempt to undermine Pakistan's reputation and credibility as a host country, while simultaneously trying to politicize the event to its advantage.

Ultimately, the success of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan will depend on the cooperation and goodwill of all participating teams, including India. However, if India continues to play politics with cricket, it may find itself increasingly isolated in the international sporting community.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 - still in jeopardy

The ICC Board is set to convene next week for an emergency meeting to discuss the fate of the 2025 Champions Trophy. According to ESPNcricinfo, the single-point agenda for the meeting, likely to be held on November 26, is to reach a consensus on whether a hybrid model should be adopted for the tournament, with matches being spread between Pakistan, the host country, and a second overseas venue, yet to be confirmed. Several sources have confirmed this development to ESPNcricinfo, although an ICC spokesperson stated there has been no official communication regarding next week's meeting. How many boards have been informed of the meeting remains to be seen. A PCB official also indicated they had yet to receive any such information. The ICC Board comprises representatives from the 12 Full Member countries, three representatives from Associates, an independent director, along with the ICC chairman and CEO. The emergency meeting has been called following the BCCI's communication to the ICC that the Indian government has denied Rohit Sharma's team permission to travel to Pakistan. This decision was communicated only a fortnight ago. The PCB was awarded hosting rights for the eight-team ODI tournament three years ago, in November 2021, and has been steadfast in its stance to conduct the entire event in Pakistan, specifically at the venues in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. Accepting this hybrid model undermines Pakistan’s national integrity and sets a dangerous precedent. This is Pakistan's lone opportunity to host an ICC event since 1996, and allowing India to dictate terms not only disrespects the host nation but also diminishes the significance of hosting rights. If Pakistan accepts this model, it will send a clear message that its sovereignty and decisions can be easily compromised, eroding the respect and authority that the country holds on the international stage. Pakistan must stand firm to protect its integrity and ensure that the Champions Trophy is hosted entirely within its borders, as originally planned.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 - Creating an unfavorable optic for Pakistan

Pakistan if not taking decisions sensibly,
have themselves to be blamed
India's refusal to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is undeniably damaging to the country's reputation, especially at a time when Pakistan is actively seeking to host ICC events in the future. This decision raises significant doubts about Pakistan's ability to successfully bid for and host global cricket tournaments on its own territory.

Motivated by political factors, this refusal not only undermines Pakistan’s position in the cricketing world but also delivers a clear message of instability and hesitation regarding its capacity to host major events. The consequences of this decision are profound; it limits Pakistan's chances of securing prestigious ICC events in the future and risks severely harming its cricketing reputation on the international stage. Pakistan must address this challenge head-on to reclaim its standing in the global cricket arena.

West Indies tour to Pakistan amid COVID-19 scare continues

Form guide

(last five completed matches, most recent first)

Pakistan         W.W.W.L.W.
West Indies     L.L.W.L.L.

West Indies will come into this T20I series hurting from how their title defence went at the T20 World Cup a month ago. They'll have more than just hurt to deal with, given the positive Covid-19 tests for Sheldon Cottrell, Roston Chase and Kyle Mayers, which have ruled the trio out of all three T20Is.

Main thing - Cricket coming to Pakistan

In all this, the larger picture is that there is international cricket happening in Pakistan for the first time since New Zealand pulled out, and then England followed suit, just about two months back. West Indies have already arrived, and the first T20I looks set to go ahead despite the positive Covid-19 tests. If any team had half a mind to pull out, surely a slew of positive tests provides a readymade reason, but that West Indies are still in Karachi and preparing to play, means cricket will happen, barring the exceptionally unforeseen.

Players to look out

Akeal Hosein has only grown since then. He's the complete package for T20s, able to bowl restrictively through different innings phases, handy with the bat lower down the order, and an athletic live-wire in the field. Hosein is likely to be a sure starter in the XI, and with greater responsibility in a depleted squad. If he can step up to it, West Indies could have themselves another great T20 prospect.

This is what I hate the most

No question on credibility of our Honorable and respected security personnel doing their job for the mother country, but they exclusive pictures we are seeing when it comes to searches related to Pakistan, and we are seeing these sort of pictures, again I am not degrading my country's security men, but those who're responsible of promoting such pictures and videos, otherwise foreign cricket boards' so incorporate such exercises but they never PROMOTE such exercises, my disagreement is on promotion, otherwise there are loads of countries in the world who have worst security situations but are staging their cricket on their home soil just because their cricket board media cell doesn't promote such things, otherwise country's having more brittle situation are staging home series' at home and here we are have to confirm we have a firm security situation at home.

West Indies news amid COVID-19 positive cases

West Indies have got plenty of exciting new talent to call on, despite missing Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Shimron Hetmyer and Fabian Allen. There's the trio of Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith and Dominic Drakes - all fast-bowling allrounders. Each can hit the speed gun as well as the white ball to considerable distances, and all three could be in action in the first T20I.

When it comes to Pakistan news

Pakistan rotated their players in the Bangladesh T20Is, rightly figuring that some needed a bit of a rest after the T20 World Cup and with a Test series against Bangladesh to follow. They're back at full strength now, apart from leaving out Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim and Hasan Ali.

Pitch and conditions

The pitch at the National Stadium is expected to be full of runs, with the weather forecast to be pleasant and clear. The match is starting at 6.00pm local time, which reduces any effect dew might have.

About T20Is in Karachi

Pakistan have won all four T20Is they've played at this venue, although the first game was back in 2008 and the other three came in 2018 - and were against West Indies.

Rainy Dhaka test

Today when I am writing this blog article, India won Mumbai test against their WTC 21 finalists i.e. New Zealand, cementing their record on home soil.
Current W/L percentages after conclusion of Mumbai Test

Whereas Bangladesh v Pakistan 2nd test match is supposed to be ending in draw, because stumps on Day 3 and still Pakistan has not completed furthermore first innings yet to be completed when day four will be initiated tomorrow.

What is next for Pakistan

A Power-packed West Indian team is supposed to be touring Pakistan for participating in ODI and T20, and this time round, I am favoring West Indies, as this time round, they are more power packed as compared to their (the West Indies team) tour to Karachi previously (April 2018) before this pandemic began and it must be remembered that time NSK was without shades, so this is supposed to be the first full fledged ODI and T20 series after pandemic.

COVID threats

This ain't a problem, but still the problem is our 'pathetic news media', getting rise to the speculations and creating them as fact, otherwise things aren't as bad in Pakistan, as propagated internationally. I know cases have been on the increase, but the fact is, the way we figured out the way to tackle previous variants, we are hopeful, same is gonna be the case, just because it is being planned not to restrict businesses.

Just Because of heavy investments for propaganda machines

Because of one of our neighbor believes in creating anarchy in neighboring countries and even utilizing money to create unrest in these regional countries.

and therefore this series is going to be played under these scenarios

And this is going to be a test for PCB and Pakistani authorities to make sure such bad taste in mouth incidents shouldn't be happening on eve and during the series, because now wars are being fought on screens instead of on battlefields, because modern battlefields are TV/Phone/Laptop/Streaming Devices'.
