In a professional environment, accountability must be prioritized over mere good faith. The question arises: why did the ICC, in 2021, fail to impose conditions when allocating the Champions Trophy to Pakistan? For instance, why wasn’t a clear timeline set, with a firm deadline for the BCCI to confirm whether India would travel to Pakistan? Such a hard deadline could have been established a year before the event, providing clarity and preventing last-minute confusion. Instead, the BCCI's decision not to travel was communicated to the ICC only around November 6—just over three months before the tournament's scheduled start on February 19. This lack of foresight by the ICC has created unnecessary uncertainty, and Pakistan, as the host, deserves better planning and respect for its efforts.
My say
India must recognize the importance of respecting all member cricket boards, including Pakistan. While Pakistan has been granted only one ICC event, India is hosting three. It is essential to foster a spirit of cooperation rather than creating unnecessary hurdles. If these challenges continue, any aggressive stance taken by member cricket boards will simply be a response to India’s actions. Respecting the rights and interests of all members is crucial for maintaining harmony and fairness within the global cricketing community.
