Its 11.35 PM at night, 30th April 2010 while I am writing this blog and currently New Zealand and Sri Lankans are playing the first match with Sri Lankans after winning the toss and batting scored 135/6 (20.0/20 ov) with Jayawardene scoring 81 off 51 balls, LD Chandimal scoring 29 off 23 and CK Kapugedera scoring 11 off 10.
New Zealand were quite consistent with their line and lengths. They bowled on the steady line and only one penalty delivery was bowled by Nathan McCullum in a wide and rest 3 extras were contributed in leg byes. Lets hope this tournament also ends in better way compared to the one ended in dismay in the 50 over contest played in 2007.
As usual, the Caribbean ambiance is observed and this tournament is looking more Caribbeanish compared to the 2007 edition of 50 over contest where it looked more of a corporate mode compared to this one where its looking more of a Caribbean carnival we associate Caribbean for.
Heard the ticket prices too are on the lower side i.e. US$5 per ticket i.e. US$5 x 84PKR (round off figure) = 420PKR per ticket, expensive compared to Pakistani standard but according to American Standards, I think its fine compared to the 2007 edition.
Many senior current playing players are predicting that the playing pitch would be on the slower side and low scoring games to be expected. If that so than Sri Lanka's target of 136 is worth mentioning and we shouldn't be expecting high scoring games like we had in England edition of World T20 tournament of 2009.
Like all Pakistanis I also want my team to play to its potential and even if they loose than loose with dignity pride and with fight till the last ball.
Best of luck with the tournament!
